Rail Station - Senior design thesis

Final senior design thesis project, Spring 2009

This is a mixed-use Rail Station for the city of Elgin, Illinois

The building consists of a large central hall with an over-looking second floor waiting area. The central core of the building is a large lightwell that extends through the entire building to draw light into all 6 floors. The main level also houses a cafe and convenience shop along the street. The upper floors is all office rental space. The most dynamic aspect of this design is the the large clock tower. This clock tower is a beacon for the city of Elgin to draw people to the center of the city. The design of the tower is taken from past historical towers that once stood proudly in Elgin, but have since been demolished. This tower is not only a beacon, but also a symbol of civic pride.
